Habte Books is an independent children’s book publisher specializing in African languages and stories. Founded in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, we work towards publishing engaging, child-friendly and educational books that children can enjoy by themselves and develop the love of reading. In 2015, Habte Books moved its office to Berlin, Germany and continued publishing multilingual books with a specific focus on representing children of African heritage and stories from the African continent. Habte Books works with African authors, illustrators, translators and editors to create authentic and creative books. In addition to traditional publishing, Habte Books also works in areas of Development of Content, Distribution of Books, Consulting on Inclusion and Representation. My First Book Series
My First Book of Words is a series of bilingual picture books in in Amharic, English, Tigrinya, Afaan Oromo, Kiswahili, German and Dutch.
With over 400 essential words used at home, school and everyday life, it aims at teaching children various languages. The Colorful illustrations keep children interested and engaged, this is a fun and educational book for building vocabulary and developing early language skills.

Ethiopian Children’s Books – Promoting Literature
Art of Buna e.V. a Köln based organization that works in the promotion of literature for young people in Ethiopia. With the aim of producing appropriate literature – for various different age groups – in order to both educate and entertain the children and young people and provide a source of enrichment in their lives. Habte Books is partnering by providing our books for free this project to be translated & distributed in different local languages and reach children.
Prophets of Wakanda Anthology
Each One Teach One (EOTO) e. V.
A writing competition Prophets of Wakanda created to empower young adults with an African migration background in Berlin. In collaboration with the project "Indaba" of EOTO e. V. and the event "THE COMET - 150 years WEB DuBois' curated by Natasha A. Kelly in cooperation with HAU Hebbel am Ufer Theater in Berlin. The winners of this competition will be published as an anthology.
Save the Children Norway-Ethiopia
With the objective of improving the reading and comprehension skills of children in lower primary schools in North Gondar, Habte Books created a total of 32 story and activity books.
